A Taste of Chicago!

First stop, Miller's Pub for Ribs complements of Kyle's Uncle Ulli (thank you so much!). Millers Pub is one of those institutions you just have to hit if you're in the Chicago area. The dark wood, stained glass, and antique pictures on the wall gave it a very classic feel. We were seated and met our server Ann. Ann suggested the rib sampler, side caesar salad, and Goose Island Honker's Ale, a local beer. Wow, these ribs were perfect, the sampler was just enough, and the beer was a good pairing. After learning about our cross-country trip, Ann excitedly told us about her adventures traveling the country and also shared with us her knowledge of the city. Through Ann we learned that today was the last day for the Taste of Chicago Food Festival. She also suggested we head North to Wrigley Field for the after game bar scene. After polishing off the ribs we thanked her for sharing her stories and got onour way to the Taste of Chicago.

Full from the ribs, we weren't interested in eating at the festival but that didn't stop us enjoying all the free samples of energy drinks, soda, cranberry juice, hand sanitizer, and other company swag...
I also found a new thing that I want in my future house, a full-size brick pizza oven! After meandering through the festival for a bit we decided to walk the mile and a half North to Navy Pier. Navy Pier is sort of an amusement park, think Wildwood, NJ but only one pier and much smaller, enough said.

We jumped on the subway, Redline toward Howard, on our way to Wrigley Field for some bar action. First stop, Rebel Bar & Grill for $3 beers. Here we met Matt and our nameless bartender who both suggested Lou Malnati's for some good Chicago style deep dish pizza. After Rebel, we learned
that Goose Island, the beer we enjoyed at Miller's, had a bar just down the street andoff we went. At Goose Island we tried their Green Line Pale Ale and met Katie, a teacher from outside the Chicago area and an avid iPhone enthusiast. A small debate broke out about iPhone/at&t vs Droid/Verizon, I was quickly outnumbered 2 to 1 and so returned to my beer while their conversation continued on. About this time we realized Katie's boyfriend was getting a little annoyed, we introduced ourselves in an attempt to draw him into the conversation but this attempt failed and may have actually made him a little more upset. At this point we decided to head out.

Walking a few blocks South we find Lou Malnati's and I found a new pizza to love, deep dish!

Chicago was a success!
