Trip Tech

What do tech-savvy creatures such as Kyle and I bring on a cross country road trip? Practically and entire home office, naturally. Welcome to Trip Tech!

During this trip we'll stay connected with various forms of communication equipment. For voice we have two of the newest flagship devices from Verizon/HTC and at&t/Apple. I will be using the new HTC Incredible running Android 2.1, a 3.7" AMOLED screen, and a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, supported by Verizon's solid 3G network. Kyle will be using the brand new iPhone 4 running iOS 4, a crisp 3.5" Retina display, and hopefully a
signal that won't get lost in his left hand!

To stay hooked online during our 10-12+ hour long hauls in and out of various cities we've enlisted the use of a Verizon MiFi 2200, connected to my MacBook Pro. Limited by Verizon's 5GB data cap, we won't be using it to watch the latest episode of American Pickers, but it will enable us to update Tripsponder with the days events while on the road or even LIVE as it happens.

To keep us pointed in the right direction we'll be using a combination of Kyle's Sister's borrowed Garmin Nuvi 255w, my Google provided Android Turn-by-Turn GPS, and most likely some local guy in a poncho.

For advertising, we had a huge LED sign to hang in the back of the civic's window. Unfortunately, during a test run, it was decided that the sun was much more powerful than the light emitted by the LEDs, the idea was canned. Check out the video below to see what could have been... think of all the funny stuff we could have typed in this thing while traveling! On second thought, would this have even been legal?

How can you stay connected to us? Click "Track Our Current Location" to view our progress as it happens! Want to see us but you're on a mobile phone? No worries! Just click Mobile Friendly T³ to see where we're at, you can even see how fast we're going! Neat-o!!

We'll let you know how all the devices are holding up as the we travel onward in the next installment of Trip Tech!
